Life in Lyrics

Your eyes, they shine so bright
I wanna save that light
I can’t escape this now
Unless you show me how

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide ~ Demons // Imagine Dragons

I live my life by songs. Which is ironic, because as I joked with one of my friends “I have no professional training.”

Seriously, I sound like a bird croaking for life. It isn’t that I am tone deaf, I just don’t have that musical quality that makes a singer a singer. You know Adele? Carrie Underwood? Lady Gaga? They have that IT voice factor.

I do not. See the bird croaking for life reference if you need convincing.

I don’t even like to sing around people. Unless I am channeling my inner hilarity factor where my idiocy is just hiding the fact my voice is sadly below average.

It would be the one percent of average.

Despite the fact my dream of being a music superstar – hair flipping in the fan like Be and Carrie – will never be realized except through characters in books where they also miraculously find height as well as multiple Grammy awards, music is still important to me.

I hear a song on the radio and it will speak to me. When I write, I need to listen to music. It sets the tones of the chapter. My playlists will determine my workouts. One of the exciting moments of yoga teacher training was when I began to create playlists for my classes.

Yes I am a nerd to the extreme. A music nerd that is.

When I worked in the restaurant business, I use to shock people when they would come in and I would be listening to rap music as I cleaned up. My musical tastes are as varied as my Gemini personality.

Each song shares a part of my life. It tells a lyrical story. The tempos matching my moods. The words touching my soul, channeling who I am. It is the melody of life. It helps me get through the moments.

I may not have “Professional training” but damn am I great at hitting the play button on my iPod.

What is a song that is an anthem for your life?
