Bucket Lists

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ~ Jawaharlal Nehru

Bucket lists can have anything from sky diving or other action packed adrenaline, but fear inducing escapades to traveling to different places amongst the world. Having a list otherwise known as a bucket list is, I think important to have in life.

It pushes you out of your comfort zone and challenges you to do things you perhaps wouldn’t have done otherwise. It gives you goals and shakes you out of ruts. They make you think, even if you never actually attempt that cliff dive.

Don’t get me wrong, things like sky diving scare the shit out of me. But their is a certain amount of accomplishment when you do it. A certain amount of I am woman (or man) and I just conquered something frickin’ amazing! And no I have not gone skydiving.

Yet!

It is on the list,

While New York is amazing, it is also – shockingly to most -incredibly small and despite all the culture very easy to get stagnate. Their are so many equally incredible cities that I want to explore. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love New York.

It just means that I want to dream big. Push the boundaries and experience life.

Thus bucket lists.

As a Type A, OCD person, lists have always been my best friend. My mom use to laugh at me. As a child, I use to make shower schedules and hang them outside the bathroom door. In my defense, their were seven of us on ONE full bath. Not going to lie, that might explain my personality just a little bit.
Goals. Places to visit. Even more mundane day to day tasks all get lists. But none are more important then a bucket list.

As kids we are taught to dream big. Adults can and should. Bucket lists give us that. Even when we are caught up in that thing called adulting, dreams never go away. What is more, as adults we can better aptly finance our dreams. Why shouldn’t we travel? Or Bungee jump? Or go to space camp? Because of age?

Responsibility doesn’t have to mean boring. We get vacation time for a reason. To experience the world. Enjoy our hard work and yes maybe do something outside of our comfort zone.

And when we succeed or check that box, it is filled with a knowing and a knowledge we never had before that just adds to our life.

This past weekend I knocked off a must on my bucket list (more in my next post!), and I am so happy I did! I can not wait to continue checking those boxes off!

Do you have a bucket list? What is on it?
