What DO I Wear? The Perfect Romper

“If you wear clothes that don’t suit you, you’re a fashion victim. You have to wear clothes that make you look better.” ~ Vivienne Westwood

I have searched high and low for the perfect Romper. With my petite height, yet working the Kim K derriere, it seemed like a romper to fit my body would only ever be viable in my dreams.

The Search

From Anthropologie to a very poorly made one at Free People (Though in my defense, my Heidi Klum look alike friend tried it on also, and it was circumspect if it actually was a romper or some sort of slutty dust rag) to Nordstrom Rack to Old Navy to H & M it seemed that it was El Dorado with no Romper in sight.

Ironically I had found a jumpsuit two years ago at White House Black Market. Shocker of shockers for this vertically challenged lady. It hadn’t even needed to be hemmed.

Yet, still no romper.

The Find

That all changed with my trip to Sausalito. Happening upon a cute boutique called Bella, My friend (ironically the same one who tried on the duster rag with me) and I began to peruse the endless racks of clothes. Suddenly low and behold I found not just a black romper or a navy blue romper, but both!

The Hesitancy

Alas, I was hesitant to try it on after so many lost causes, I wasn’t sure my self esteem could face another attempt at trying to fit into a romper and it being no bueno. My friend encouraged me to try it on. With much hemming and hawing I reluctantly did.

Choir of angels sing! It fit! Shockingly, quite well!

The Romper

With a deep v and lace detailing it was what I had been searching for, but couldn’t find anywhere. It really was my dreams come to life! While it was still a little shorter then I would have liked, it did cover my derriere. I noticed it was slightly longer in back protecting me from any wardrobe malfunctions. No one wants to pull a Brittany!

Made of a light weight cotton, it had the feel and look of linen making it perfect for a dressy dinner out during the summer. It was edged with lace and the sleeves had a bell like quality that came down to my elbows. It showed enough skin to be sexy, but not indecent.

The Look

Okay, confession time, I might have been pushing the slightly indecent look, when I wore it to my friend’s bachelorette party (it IS a bachelorette) in Montreal.

Pairing it with black booties, my black trench coat (because it was slightly cold..Only slightly) curled locks and lots of big gold jewelry, it was one of the more easy looks, I have put together in my fashionista life.

I ended up buying both the black and navy and I can not wait to change the looks up this summer with different accessories and shoes. The looks truly are endless!

What do you think of the romper? Do you love it? Hate it? Do you own one? As always I love hearing from you.
