What Do I Wear?!?! The Leather Jacket

“Everyone should have a great leather jacket in their wardrobe. It is perfect to wear with a T-shirt and jeans and great pair of high tops.” ~ Brad Goreski

It gets colder and the leather breaks out.

As a kid wearing leather was always edgy. It was the rule-breakers who wore it. Bikers and motorcyclists. The rebels without a cause. Think Johnny from Grease. You would occasionally catch the cool kids rocking one on television ah la AC Slater, dimples and all. Leather was that accessory you coveted, but also brushed aside as something that was to daring, especially a girl from a small town. Yet, as I grew older, it transitioned from that girl is cray-cray to an edgy chic must have fashion statement.

Leather pants were an actual thing every day people could wear, not just the rock stars playing air guitar and splitting their pants. Leggings were not just for workout fiends but actually being made from leather and everyone had a leather jacket. It wasn’t just a trend for only a select few, but one for everyone!

I bought my (faux- I should add, only way I role with my leather, peeps!) leather jacket at H&M completely on a whim. I admit, I rarely shop there. While they are trendy and their prices are cheap, for the quality it actually doesn’t end up being bang for my buck. A few wears and the clothes falls apart. No thank you!

Yet I found myself curiously walking into the 86th and Lex store one September day. As I was browsing, I came across a jacket that was on sale and it called to me. At first I was unsure. I knew it was going to fall apart. As I looked at the price and all the gorgeous zippers it was like a billboard flashing in my face: “Buy me!” It seemed to yell. I caved to that voice, deciding I couldn’t just leave it and bought the jacket. is still my trusty companion five years later. Getting me through Fall daily, as well as when I am being basic, freezing my derriere off because I need a dressy jacket in the heart of Winter.

I wear it with everything from jeans, to dresses, to black tie. It is that staple in my closet that effortlessly adds that edgy chicness without having to stress whether it matches. Some how leather matches with everything!

One of the reasons I love this jacket so much, is that it has a ton of zippers, I have always been that girl that loves that extra pizazz whether it is zippers, grommets, or even a distressed look and this jacket has it! It is also the perfect length. Not to short, but also not ridiculously long on my legal little person body.

While I have accumulated several more since this first foray into the chic wild side, their is something timeless about having a simple basic black leather jacket. Not to mention it has surprisingly held up over the years!
