“Put on a sweater and really great sneakers with a big scarf, and you’ll look so stylish. For me, they are an everyday essential.” ~ Meghan Markle
My favorite accessory jut might be the scarf. If you have visited me, you will see the gazillion I have hanging on a rack displayed in all their fabulous cozy glory. When I go to a store, I usually make a beeline to the scarves, perusing the selection because of course I can ALWAYS use another one.
And like Texas, The bigger the better.
As much as I love scarves, a girl does have her likes and dislikes and you will rarely see me rocking an infinity scarf. For this girl who loves options, it is the one scarf I deplore because it is so limiting.
The Blanket Scarf
No, my favorite scarf is the blanket scarf. It is big and cozy and warm. And the options are endless! It can seem daunting at first because it is SO big, but that is the magic of the blanket scarf.
When I wear one, I feel cocooned in fabric and protected from the blustery wintery elements. It not only gives warmth, but also solace, and it is my go to, especially during the colder months.
With my love of Anthropologie and Free People, it would make sense that I would love Urban Outfitters, but truthfully I don’t shop there THAT much.
Actually if we were being honest, the store is rarely on my radar unless I am walking past one and something catches my eye.
It is truly ironic, or perhaps serendipitous then, that a couple years ago I was shopping with a friend in Urban Outfitters and I came across the “It” scarf of my collection. The Ms. Popular of all my scarves.
I am not sure what made me deign to look at this scarf, except it really was a match made in fashion love. I don’t own much clothing in tan. I don’t hate the color, it just isn’t one I typically gravitate too, yet this scarf captured my attention and kept it. The material is ridiculously soft which sold me right then and there. Scarves must be soft, especially since they are around your face. A scratchy scarf will cause you to break out and causes more discomfort then is worth the warmth in my opinion.
It is also humongous. When I opened it to check it out, my friend had to help me. It really does put the blanket into the scarf.
It was also on sale, which was another win-win. I did debate buying it, I wasn’t sure, but ultimately I caved and I am so happy I did!
The Many Uses
When I bought this scarf I had no idea how much I would use it or how versatile it really would be! It has gone on all of my major trips in the last four years, even the ones I took during the Summer. Not only is it a fashion accessory, but it has doubled as a pillow when I am on the train and is big enough to act as its’ namesake when I am flying or at the movie theater.
Because of the material, I can use it well into the warmer months, and many times I will stash it in my carry on when I am traveling, even in July! It also dries at almost a super hero rate, so I never have to worry about it when it gets wet. For this girl who loves duality in her products, this scarf has that in spades!
Of course you can’t forget about its’ original purpose, to actually wear it. Versatility is the name of this scarf, and that includes the endless styling options. Because of the color and material, it not only goes with my entire wardrobe, I am also able to wear it almost every season. From pairing it with my heavy down jacket, to a lighter denim and or my leather jacket, it is perfect for all occasions.
This is a scarf that has more then paid its’ way and dare I say it, it is one of my favorite pieces in my closet.
Do you like blanket scarves? How do you style them? Do you have that favorite piece in your closet?
